At a glance:
Total confirmed cases at 142,000+ (18,000+ more cases), 2,400+ deaths
New York (59,000+), New Jersey (13,000+), and California (6,200+) lead in case numbers
California STILL has 64,400 (!!) pending tests, wtf
Testing total at 831,351 (up 96,000 from yesterday, lower than the last 4 days)
State and Local News
The restrictions in the Seattle area seem to be working; Governor Inslee says Washington (4,392 cases) not “within 1,000 miles of declaring victory.”
New York’s (59,000+ cases) death toll has now surged past 1,000, mostly concentrated in New York City; New York City’s 911 system is overwhelmed
Alaska (102 cases) orders statewide shelter-in-place, mandates social distancing and bans non-essential intrastate travel; anyone arriving in Alaska needs to fill out a form and self-quarantine for 14 days
Trump extends social distancing guidelines to end of April, says peak of death rate will be in 2 weeks. Predicts the country will be recovering by June 1

🇮🇹 Some discussion of under-counting deaths in Italy (97,000+) on the Reddit; an extremely disturbing look inside Italy’s hospitals (video)
🇻🇳Prime Minister of Vietnam (194 cases) has asked the major cities to prepare for possible lockdowns
🇳🇱 Netherlands (10,900+) recalled almost half of the 1.3 million masks recently imported from China
🇮🇳 Doctors in India (1,024 cases, which puts it 4 more than Iceland but 100 less then Greece) are bracing for a rapid uptick of cases despite nationwide lockdown and travel restrictions
🇨🇳 Rioting broke out on the border between Hubei (where Wuhan is located) and Jiangxi provinces. China (82,122) currently only has 2,466 active cases, and only officially recorded 45 new cases yesterday (mostly imported)
