At a glance:

New York (161,504 cases & 7,067 deaths), New Jersey (51,027 & 1,700), and Michigan (21,504 & 1,076) lead in case numbers
California (20,212 & 559), Massachusetts (18,941 & 503), and Pennsylvania (18,546 & 360), and are the next three states.
Louisiana (18,283 & 702), Florida (16,826 & 371), and Illinois (16,422 & 528) are next. Texas overtakes Georgia (10,885 & 412) to round up the top ten with 11,426 cases and 222 deaths.

State and Local News
There was a demonstration of 100 inmates at the Monroe Correctional Complex in Washington (9,740 cases & 455 deaths) state after six inmates tested positive for Covid-19.
New York saw the lowest number of new hospitalizations since the statewide lockdown. However, it also had a new record number of single day fatalities from the virus.
Whitehouse officials have labeled the Philadelphia (4,777 & 78) area as a hotspot. Though the area has seen growth slow in both new cases and deaths, they are both still doubling every 2-3 days.

Other news
The Federal Reserve has announced it would provide up to $2.3 trillion in loans via nine programs. The Fed (under the leadership of Chairman Jerome Powell) is pushing deeper into areas of credit and fiscal policy that the central bank has traditionally deferred to elected officials.
Russia and Saudi Arabia agree in principle to massive oil-production reductions in a 23-nation coalition, but Mexico has put the agreement in jeopardy by abruptly exiting the talks.

🇾🇪After not being able to find a good source for Yemen numbers for yesterday’s recap, war-stricken Yemen (1 case & 0 deaths) has reported their first case (via BNO)
🇸🇦The coronavirus has infected 150 members of the royal family of Saudi Arabia (3,287 & 44). The true extent of the epidemic in the country is unclear due to limited testing capacity.
🇮🇩The Governor of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia (3,293 & 280), has ordered a partial shutdown of the city. It has banned religious gatherings, as well as banned motorbike taxis from carrying passengers. Half of Indonesia’s cases are in the crowded city of Jakarta, whose Governor has questioned official figures as many patients suspected of Covid-19 have died before getting tests.p
🇭🇰Hong Kong (974 & 4), 🇸🇬Singapore (1,910 & 6), and 🇹🇼Taiwan (382 & 6) are all seeing a spike in new cases in the last two weeks.
Hong Kong and Taiwan’s new cases are primarily from abroad.
In addition to imported cases, Singapore has seen a dramatic increase in local community transmission. It has imposed a lockdown until early May.
🇬🇧The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (65,077 & 7,978) has been moved out of the intensive-care unit, but remains in the hospital.
