State and Local News
Several models predicted New York (172,358 & 7,844) would have hospital-bed shortages. This has so far not materialized. Recently, University of Washington’s IHME model’s estimates have been revised downwards.
The Detroit area in Michigan (22,783 & 1,281) continues be battered. Michigan’s cases and deaths will peak (according to some models) within the next few days. 1,400 ventilators are being used in Michigan, with 1,200 of them being used in the Detroit metro.
Trump says he will not reopen the economy “until we know this country is going to be healthy.” HHS has projects that lifting stay-at-home orders and stopping social distancing would lead to an infection spike in the summer.
Nearly 70 people test positive in San Francisco’s largest homeless shelter. San Francisco currently has 797 cases and 13 deaths. The counties in the San Francisco Bay Area are the first places in the country to order stay-at-home directives and have largely flattened the curve.
Trends
San Francisco 49ers not winning the Super Bowl is actually a good thing for San Francisco - a championship parade would have increased the infection rate dramatically.

🇹🇷 Turkey (47,029 & 1,006) has imposed a 48 hour lockdown in 31 provinces starting midnight of Friday. This is a sharp contrast when compared to the weeks and even months-long lockdowns that are taking place in America, Europe, and Asia.
🇷🇺 Moscow, the capital of Russia (13,584 & 106), is under a stay-at-home order until May 1. It will be implementing a digital pass system to allow people to leave their homes to select destinations during the lockdown.
🇮🇹 Italy (147,577 & 18,849) has extended lockdown orders to May 3
🇭🇺 Hungary (1,310 & 85) has extended their lockdown indefinitely. Half of the cases in the country are in its capital, Budapest. The Prime Minister, who has just gained power to rule by decree, said: “We have won time, we have been defending ourselves well, but the real test is yet to come.”

🗳️ In a past recap, I briefly mentioned the shit-show that was Wisconsin’s recent voting (polling stations closed, voters waiting for hours, etc). Here is what South Korea did for their recent election amidst the pandemic: mail in voting was an option for all, additional voting booths were opened in facilities where Covid-19 patients were being treated (for patients and staff), temperatures were being checked at the voting booths, and early in-person voting was available in thousands of locations.
